Qantas confirmed via a statement on Monday that it had detected unusual activity on a ‘third party,’ system used by the airline.
The platform used by customer service staff has the records of six million Qantas customers, however Qantas say’s that it doesn’t contain financial information such as credit card information.
“We sincerely apologise to our customers and we recognise the uncertainty this will cause. Our customers trust us with their personal information and we take that responsibility seriously.” said Qantas Group Chief Executive Officer Vanessa Hudson
Qantas has notified the Cyber Security Centre and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
Whilst the airline is continuing it’s investigation it notes that some information that may have been available includes; customers’ names, email addresses, phone numbers, birth dates and frequent flyer numbers.
Customers will be notified, and a dedicated hotline has been established for affected customers 1800 971 541.
